Hudson’s Hope prepares for forecasted downpour

first_imgHudson’s Hope is taking steps to prepare for another large rainfall event this weekend, after Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for the Peace.Although the district itself did not suffer a significant amount of damage, Manager of Protective Services Alan Stebbing says it attempted to ensure transportation corridors to both Chetwynd and Fort St. John were kept open and nearby residents stranded by the storm were helped.- Advertisement -Stebbing says he knows of about four or five residents that were affected by overland flooding and the district has provided them with information on the provincial Disaster Financial Assistance program.Currently, he says the District is keeping in contact with Environment Canada, the B.C. River Forecast Centre and the Provincial Emergency Program. He also says district crews are preparing for the upcoming rain by removing debris from various culverts to ensure they do not become blocked.Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the Peace, with rain expected to start late Thursday and continue throughout the weekend until Tuesday. Although much of the rain is expected to hit both the south and central areas, the north will also experience a considerable amount of rain, with upwards of 30 millimetres over Friday and Saturday.last_img
