According to the agency, whose MBS programs directly support housing finance programs administered by the Federal Housing Administration, and other related agencies, its issuance of MBS totaled $36.77 billion in July.Breaking down these issuances, Ginnie Mae said that they included $35.38 billion of Ginnie Mae II MBS and $1.39 billion of Ginnie Mae I MBS, which includes $1.229 billion of loans for multifamily housing.Ginnie Mae data indicated that issuances for single-family home loans remained unchanged at $162 million month-over-month. However, they declined from $463 million recorded during the same period last year. Overall issuances for single-family and multifamily loans also declined year over year to $1.3 billion from $1.9 billion during the same period last year.Ginnie Mae II MBS are modified pass-through mortgage-backed securities for which registered holders receive an aggregate principal and interest payment from a central paying agent. An Issuer may participate in the Ginnie Mae II MBS either by issuing custom, single-Issuer pools or through participation in the issuance of multiple-Issuer pools, which combine loans with similar characteristics. On the other hand, Ginnie Mae I MBS are modified pass-through mortgage-backed securities on which registered holders receive separate principal and interest payments on each of their certificates. Ginnie Mae I securities can include single-family, multifamily, manufactured home and project construction loans.Earlier, last week, Ginnie Mae had issued a bulletin highlighting processing changes to the HMBS loan-level disclosures beginning with the August 2018 new issuances disclosure and the July monthly disclosure.Last month Michael Bright, EVP, and COO at Ginnie Mae laid out his vision for the agency during his testimony at the Senate Banking Committee’s hearing to consider his nomination as the President of Ginnie. Bright, who was nominated for this position by the Trump administration in late May said that Ginnie Mae’s bond and its brand were globally recognized as the most pristine mortgage security in the world. “This is because of Ginnie Mae’s track record of success and our robust process for ensuring the timely payment of principal and interest to security holders,” he said. “Ginnie Mae has never missed a payment in its 50 years of existence, even during the financial crisis.” You can read more about Bright’s vision for Ginnie Mae here.In June, issued an All Participants Memorandum (APM) announcing the implementation of changes to pooling eligibility requirements for Department of Veteran Affairs’ (VA) insured or guaranteed mortgages under the “Loan Seasoning for Ginnie Mae Mortgage-Backed Securities,” provision. These changes affect security issuances on or after June 1, 2018, but do not otherwise affect the guarantee or composition of MBS issued before that date. Professor studies border dispute

first_imgIn his new book titled “Contested Frontiers in the Syria-Lebanon-Israel Region: Cartography, Sovereignty and Conflict,” history and peace studies professor Asher Kaufman uses maps to illustrate the complexity of the border dispute among Israel, Syria and Lebanon, using this border area as a microcosm of Middle Eastern history for the past 100 years.Kaufman said his case study reveals a flaw in the way we view international borders.“There is always a gap between how we perceive political borders as impregnable, impenetrable lines that are controlled by the states and the reality that consistently defeats that,” he said. “This is even more so in areas of conflict zones, where we think of borders as lines of defense where the military stands behind one side, the other military behind the other side, and the border line is simply a war zone.“This has been the image of the Israeli borders with its Arab neighbors. When you zoom in, you see that the situation is far more complex.”To better understand the complexity of these borders, Kaufman said he pored through French diplomatic archives that were disorganized but held the key to unlocking the border dispute.“I knew that if I would find anything about the Lebanese and Syrian borders it would be there, because the French demarcated these borders, in theory, during the days of the French mandate,” he said.Kaufman said this border dispute is especially relevant to the current Syrian political climate and its resulting refugee crisis.“In light of the unrest that has engulfed the Middle East since 2011, if you look at the Syrian civil war, and you look at the situation at Syria’s borders, you get a sense … that the conflicts in the region, even the Syrian civil war, cannot be circumscribed within the boundaries of Syria,” he said. “There is actually great leakage.“The civil war in Syria has become a regional issue. Lebanon is affected by it. Israel is affected by it. And the tri-border region has become another arena where the civil war is being manifested.”This conflict and those involved in it has made the region he writes about dangerous, Kaufman said.“Because of the topography of this region, it has become an area for arms smuggling, for combatants to go back and forth from Lebanon to Syria and vice versa,” he said.“Because of the sensitivity of this region, Israel has now fortified its military presence and has also began treating Syrian citizens arriving now at the Israeli borders asking for medical assistance. It all takes place there in this very small piece of land that, despite its small size, can tell us the big stories of the Middle East.”Kaufman said using cartography to examine the conflict in this region – the first third of his book is all about maps – is “innovative.”“Something that has not been done by I don’t think anybody is the connection I make between cartography and the social and political reality, colonial cartography of the 19th century, its impact on boundary demarcation in the 20th century and the way this colonial cartography eventually plays a decisive role in how border populations behave on a day- to-day basis,” he said.Tags: Asher Kaufman, book, cartography, civil war, Israel, Lebanon, Middle East, Syrialast_img read more

Man City, Juventus Lead Race for Adama Traore

first_imgManchester City and Juventus ‘lead the race to sign Wolves winger Adama Traore ahead of Barcelona’ in this summer transfer window. The powerful 24-year-old is attracting attention from Europe’s top clubs having terrorised Premier League defences all season. And according to ESPN, it is now Pep Guardiola’s side and Italian champions Juventus looking most likely to secure a deal for the £80million-rated star. Adama Traore Traore has been at the heart of Wolves’ push for European qualification with four goals and nine assists in the Premier League. He has three years left on his current contract, putting his club in a strong negotiating position.Barcelona, where Traore played in the academy before moving to England, are also interested but will only attempt to bring him back next year as the club need to focus on outgoing players this summer. The departure of Leroy Sane to Barcelona could lead City to signing a new wide player. And Juventus need to reduce the average age of their front-line, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Juan Cuadrado aged 35 and 32 respectively and Douglas Costa turning 30 in September.Traore joined Wolves for £18million from Middlesbrough in August 2018 and has since gone from strength to strength at Molineux. It is thought that if Wolves qualify for the Champions League this season that he would remain at the club.Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegramlast_img read more
