first_imgDES MOINES, Iowa — This summer, fifth-year senior Michael Roane is an intern at Holmes Murphy Associates in West Des Moines, Iowa. checked in with Michael to see what his experience has been like so far and how he believes that this experience will help his future.Q: What does your internship consist of?A: I am a sales intern on the employee benefits team. I am prospecting future clients and finding as much information on them as possible and any connections that they have with our sales people. I am also going on sales calls/meetings with current and prospect customers to see how the renewal process works and what it is like to be in a sales role.Q: How did you learn about your internship opportunity?A: I found out about it from Career bluePrint through the Drake University School of Business. I also found out about it from a connection of a family friend who is best friends with one of Holmes Murphy’s senior vice presidents.Q: Before you started your internship, what were your goals for your internship?A: I knew I wanted to be within a sales role, as well as be in a company that is well respected throughout the community. I also wanted to make sure that I was working towards a goal and provided value to the company I would be working for.Q: How will this internship help you in your future?A: This internship will help me get a leg up on other students, and give me the opportunity to learn about the insurance industry and what is it to be in sales.
