Later, she converted a three-point play to push the Bulldogs lead back to six points. Bachrodt then made her own clutch three-pointer after one by Simon-Ressler. Simon-Reesler then made another three-pointer to pull back to three points at 60-57 but Becca Jonas (Independence, Mo.) made a layup and Miller made a free throw to extend the advantage back to five. In the opening quarter, UNI raced out to a 12-6 lead behind two threes by Kennedy Kirkpatrick. However, Drake quickly answered with an 11-0 scoring run to go up 17-12. The Panthers answered with five straight to tie the game at 17-all before Hittner beat the buzzer with a three-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 20-17 lead. Hittner led all scorers with 10 points in the quarter. Drake, which would lead by as many 11 in the second quarter, held a 41-33 halftime lead. Dean sparked the Bulldogs in the period with 12 points. Dean helped set her teammates as well with three assists. Drake shot 50 percent from the floor (16-of-32) and 50 percent from behind the three-point line (3-of-6) in the first two quarters.
